Review of the Passed Year

Danakosha Ling's year has been blessed with numerous precious dharma teachings and special celebrations.

In April Tulku Dakpa Rinpoche gave a teaching on Bardo states in Helsinki to many fortunate listeners.

Saga Dawa festival was celebrated in May with a fire puja and group practice, and Tibetan New Year, Losar, in February. In April Tulku Dakpa Rinpoche visited Ladakh to lead the 19th great group practice of 100 million Vajra Guru Mantras at late His Holiness Taklung Tsetrul Rinpoche's monastery. This group practice used to be led by H.H. Taklung Tsetrul Rinpoche until his passing to parinirvana. The event lasted 3 weeks, and included teachings and empowerments. Numerous people attended every day.

In June Danakosha Ling had the honor to host a visit by Venerable Ringu Tulku Rinpoche. Rinpoche kindly blessed the land and the temple.

In August Danakosha Ling had the joy to host a visit of ten monks from Dorje Drak monastery and do a Tara puja and Sang offering with them.

The renovation work on the temple and the dormitory building was continued in a concentrated Karma yoga month in May-June and two weekends in September. Many participants kindly offered their effort, and a lot was accomplished. Read more about the work and progress below.

The monk Shatup Gailak from India kindly spent three months in Danakosha Ling working tirelessly on the traditional wooden decorations, paintings and entrance of the temple.

Danakosha Ling had the great honor to have Khenpo Pema Rangjung from Dzogchen Monastery as our guest for three months. Tulku Dakpa Rinpoche and Khenpo Pema Rangjung conducted a very traditional filling of the Buddha Shakyamuni and Guru Rinpoche statues in Danakosha. The statues were filled with very precious, holy and blessed substances from Tibet and from great masters. They are very blessful and gorgeous statues both internally and externally. The statues and the temple were consecrated in a great consecration ceremony and celebrations in July.

The third year teachings of the five-year course on Relaxing in the Nature of Mind by Longchen Rabjam were given by Tulku Dakpa Rinpoche in July. This year's teaching covered the bodhichitta of application. The third year of the course also included a group exam, with two groups of students answering questions on the material prepared by Tulku Dakpa Rinpoche and Khenpo Pema Rangjung. Nearly 40 fortunate disciples gathered to receive and contemplate these profound teachings.

On the festival of Buddha's turning of the wheel of dharma Khenpo Pema Rangjung graciously bestowed the empowerment of Guru Rinpoche to many appreciative participants. This was the first empowerment ever bestowed in Danakosha Ling.

In September Tulku Dakpa Rinpoche gave a speech on world peace to a room full of interested listeners in Mahdollisuuksien tori (Market of possibilities) event at Forssa. Danakosha Ling also had an info table in the event, presenting our activities to curious passers-by.

Throughout the year Tulku Dakpa Rinpoche visited the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Denmark, Sweden and India to give precious dharma teachings.

Amazing Progress at Construction Works at Danakosha Ling

As the Danakosha Ling center was acquired in 2016, we knew there is a great work ahead to turn the estate into a proper and traditional Tibetan buddhist center. Over the following two years numerous devoted people have given their time and effort to accomplish this sublime goal, each contributing according to their skills and ability. A big part of this work was concentrated in Karma yoga programs, focused group efforts arranged in the spring and autumn times. The effort of all these generous volunteers is truly appreciated, and will leave a lasting mark in helping to establish Buddhism in Finland for the centuries to come.

In two karma yogas this year the volunteers have accomplished a lot. In the dormitory building concrete floors were poured, piping and insulation installed, surfaces prepared, etc. A new shrine was built inside the temple, as well as a traditional entrance to the temple.

One indispensible helper among the many was Lubomir Michna from Slovakia, an experienced construction worker who participated in the Karma yoga programs in 2017 and 2018. Lubomir met Tulku Dakpa Rinpoche in Slovakia and 2017, and hearing of the need of volunteers at Danakosha Ling, he decided to help.

Lubomir doesn't see the work as only a physical undertaking, but also a mental practice, a practice of dharma.
- If it can be used for practice and practiced consciously, all the work makes much more sense. It becomes something bigger. When difficulties arise in the work, it gives one an opportunity to work on one's own motivation and sense of presence, Lubomir says.
- Tulku Dakpa Rinpoche's almost continuous presence in the center during the renovations has helped to make everything go smoothly, he adds.

Lubomir has enjoyed his two stays in Finland greatly, enjoying the nature and landscapes and meeting people at Danakosha Ling. While he enjoys the work and the surroundings, he sees a bigger purpose to the work.
- My reason for being here is that I understand that the place needs help to finish the dormitory as soon as possible, so that the teacher can commit to giving teachings and really doing what he's supposed to do, instead of spending energy on the construction aspect of the center.

While a lot has been accomplished in the renovations, a lot still remains to be done. Lubomir encourages everyone who has a possibility to participate to come and give their help.
- I think it's so beneficial to spend time here in whatever manner one chooses or feels like. Of course you won't regret deciding to come.

Watch a video of the amazing progress at the dormitory renovations.
