The Jetsun Lineage

Minling Jetsün Khandro Rinpoche was born as the eldest daughter of the 11th throne holder of Mindrolling, Tri Gyurme Kunzang Wangyal. When she was about two years old, the 16th Karmapa Rigpe Dorje recognized her as the reincarnation of Khandro Rinpoche, the Great Dakini of Tsurphu. Her father, the great throne holder, raised her with immense love and bestowed upon her all the lineages of empowerments, transmissions, and essential instructions. From Kyabje Taklung Tsetrul Rinpoche, she received numerous profound teachings including the complete Kama and Terma empowerments of the Nyingma (Early Translation) school, as well as Dzogchen teachings such as Gongpa Zangthal. From Kyabje Trulshik Rinpoche, she received many empowerments, instructions and oral transmissions, particularly those of the Mindrolling lineage. Kyabje Trulshik Rinpoche strongly urged her to take on the title and responsibilities of Mindrolling Jetsünma, following the tradition of previous Mindrolling Jetsünmas.  

Jetsün Khandro Rinpoche studied with many sublime masters of all traditions, perfecting her understanding of both sutra and tantra through the three trainings of listening, contemplation, and meditation. She has is known worldwide as a female master who combines both scholarship and realization She founded and oversees many Dharma organizations including the Samten Tse Nuns retreat center in India, Mindrolling Lotus Garden Retreat Center in the United States and also oversees and manages the living conditions and administration of the sangha at Mindrolling Monastery in India. Jetsün Khandro Rinpoche also continues to engage in extensive charitable activities providing food, clothing, and medical assistance to those in need, while constantly working to benefit both the Buddhist teachings and all beings. Some of Jetsünma’s distinctive characteristics include being born into the luminous divine lineage and maintaining pure monastic discipline and imparting the pure teachings. She is a great female Tibetan tulku who has mastered both the traditional and modern fields of knowledge. Despite being both the daughter of a great Tibetan master and a recognized tulku, she completed her education from primary through university level at Christian convent schools. Jetsün Khandro Rinpoche mastered both sutra and tantra teachings and is proficient in various languages including English, Hindi and Nepalese. She travels across the world through Europe, North America and Asia turning the vast Wheel of Dharma in both the the East and the West and is thus widely renowned.
